Big swell and waves down the pier

Although it looked calm from the beach we knew it would be big around the corner, and we could see waves splashing over the side of the pier. We kept wide around the North pier and ended up in rolling swell, up to 8ft. We kept a distance from the wall and watched the big waves crash from afar. A tide race starred forming between the piers, so we paddled in before it got bigger. We went to the Fish Quay to practice skills. Gordon did some Greenland rolling and I managed three rolls.
Forecast was 1.2m swell from NE, 3 - 5ft surf.
