Nine paddlers out for a standard Saturday morning paddle. Very low tide getting on. There was a seal pup resting on the steps as we paddles around the pier. Big swell around the corner including one freak wave which Rich went to bongo slide.
I paddled with Kev P into Cullercoats, using the beacons to make sure we stayed in the deep water.
Flooding tide and a SE wind meant the tide race was just starting as we paddled back in-between the piers.
Had a go at a roll but failed it. Thankfully I practiced far out because as we paddled back into the shore we saw a submerged tractor. Sounds like the Red Seals rescue boats had a mechanical and it was spewing diesel into the river :( We reported it to Tyne VTS
